The Bhagavad Gita is an important Hindu Scripture.It is revered as sacred scripture of Hinduism and considered as one of the most important classics of the world.Bhagvad Gita is a part of Mahabharatha.Bhagavad Gita is usually referred as Gita in short.Gi stands for sacrifice and Ta stands for spirituality. So Gita teaches both sacrifice and the real nature of the world.
The content of Gita is the conversation between Lord Krishna and Arjuna taking place in the battlefield before the start of Kurushetra war. Responding to confusion and moral dilema of Arjuna, Lord Krishna explains to Arjuna his duties as a warrior and prince and elaborates on different yoga and vedantic philosophies with examples. Hence Gita is the essence of vedantic philosophy in the form of teachings of Lord krishna himself to Arjuna. It is considered as the teachings of Lord Himself to the entire universe.Bhgavad Gita is also called Gitopanishad as well as Yogopanishad. Since Bhagavad Gita represents a summary of the Upanishadic teachings , it is also called as the Upanishad of the Upanishads.Bhagavad Gita Occures in the Bhisma Pa5rva o fMahabharatha and comprises of 18 chapters and 700 verses.
