ABOUT KRISHNAJANMASHTAMI

AUM SRI SAI RAM AUM SRI SAI RAM

This year's Janmashtami is on 14-08-09.This day is the birth day of Lord Krishna, the eigth Avathar of LORD VISHNU.It is believed that Lord Krishna is born on Rohini star on the Ashtami day of the eigth day of Krishnapaksha during the month of Sharavana.Eight days after the full moondayof month Shravana falls Janmashtami. Hence the actual celebration takes place on two days as the star Rohini and Ashtami do not fall on the same day. Thus the celebration during this year is on 13th and 14 th August 2009.The first day is usually called as Krishnashtami or Gokulashtami. The second day is called Kalashtami or Janmashtami.Bhagavan Krishna lived on the earth between BC 3200 and 3100.
Out of ten reincarnations of Lord MahaVishnu, this avathar Krishna is considered to be most glorious one. Actually the avathar or birth of Krishna signifies the victory of good over evil. The objective of this avathar is to destroy the wicked demons mainly Kamsa and to play a pivotal role in the battlefield Kurushethra where He delivered the famous message of"GITA"
During this festival devotees observe fast on this day which is broken at midnight as it is believed that Lord is born on midnight of that day.During this day most of houses in South India are decorated beautifully to welcome the Lord and several sweetmeats are prepared to offer to the Lord as prasad. From the doorway to the Pooja Room of the house , the floor is marked with child's footprint using a paste of flour and water . This creates a feeling of Lord's own feet have made a divine mark on the floor of our living place. On this occasion it is most sacred to chant Moola Mantra Of Krishna "Om Klim Krishnaya Namaha' or divine manthra" Om Namo Bhagavathe Vasudevaya Namaha".During midnight the idol of Lord Krishna is is bathed and placed in a cradle and worshipped. After completing Arathi and pooja , the devotees break the 24 hour fast.

HAPPY AND MERRY JANMASHTAMI TO ALL, MAY LORD KRISHNA SHOWER HIS GRACE
