As per vedic scriptures of Sanathana Dharma no 108 is very significant,actually it is a magic no of spirituality.Our ancestors and sages have insisted to recite various manthras 108 times atleast.There are so many convincing reasons for choosing the no 108 for the worship.Some of the noteworthy reasons are listed below.
1)SPIRITUAL
108 =1+0+8 = 9. When we add the numericals of no 108 ,we get the no .9.No.9 e denotes the nine forms of devotion as described in Shri Sai Satcharita.1)Sharavana 2)Kirtan 3)Smaran 4)Padaseva 5)Archan 6)Namakar7)Dasya 8)Sakyam 9)Atmanivedan.Further for Japa we have got 108 sacred names of various God and Godess.Incidentally in Islam also, there are 108 sacred names of Allah

In astrology there are 12 different rasis and 9 grahas. 12 X 9 = 108 different combinations of radiation at the time of birth of a child decides the future life and based on this calculations Hindus make the horoscope.
3)ASTRONOMICAL
During solar eclipse the distance between earth and sun divided by the diameter of sun is 108 and the distance between earth and moon divided by the diameter of earth is also108.
During lunar eclipse the distance between moon and sun divided by the diameter of sun is 108 and the distance between earth and moon divided by the diameter of moon is also 108. Hence the figure 108 is a constant in this Universe
4)CHEMISTRY
There are 108 elements that are found so far.
5) CULTURAL
In most of the classical dances there are 108distinct mudras , the combination of which actually forms the dance
