                                                        Attukal Pongala Festival , a unique festival of its kind  in the whole world itself begins on today for the year 2010, 20 th feb 2010..Attukal Pongala is an annual festival of Attukal Bhagavathy Temple at Attukal near Trivandrum. This festival is a congregation of women folk for offering boiled rice in the earthen pot to the Goddess during  the Malayalam month of Kumbam.Today Pongala has become a symbol of faithfulness, devotion and sincerity to  Devi Ma.Aboveall Attukal Festival is a festival of womanhood. Hence Attukal temple is kinown as Sabarimala of women devotees.
                                                       Last year a record no of women devotees irespective cast and creed  offered Pongala to Devi Ma, the Mother Godess.This festival has already entered into the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest gathering of women in the world. Actually Pongala is a special practice  of offering to God prevalent in the southern parts of Kerala and also in some parts of Tamilnadu. This year's Pongala is on 28 the Feb.10 .
